About Us...

The school is a thriving, successful mixed bilingual comprehensive school that is maintained by Carmarthenshire local authority. There are approximately 1,450 pupils on roll based on a large campus. There is a sixth form of some 270 pupils.

The school is located in the small town of Ammanford at the foot of the Black Mountain. Around half of pupils come from the town itself, and the other half from the surrounding rural area and nearby villages. Pupils attending the school come from a large catchment area which is a mixture of the rural and industrial. The school reflects and enhances the bilingual nature of the area.

Almost a third of pupils come from Welsh-speaking homes. Around 47% of pupils speak Welsh fluently and a little over half study Welsh as their first language.

The school has excellent sports facilities, including a Sports hall, a Swimming pool, a new Astroturf for Hockey and Football, together with Tennis courts. There is also a fine tradition of sporting achievements and other extra-curricular activities in the school. Many pupils represent their county and country in a number of fields.

As a school we take all matters regarding Safeguarding seriously. All Safeguarding concerns should be reported to the Safeguarding Officer, Mrs Cathrin Griffiths or our Deputy Safeguarding Officers, Mr Chris Davies, Mrs Fiona Elias or the Headteacher Mr James Durbridge .

Our Governor with responsibility for Child Protection is Mrs Petra Howells.
