Extra curricular activities are a very important part of the opportunities offered by the school.
The cultural highlights of the school year are always the St. David’s Day Eisteddfod and the Music/Drama productions. Productions have included The Sound of Music, Y Seren Newydd and Deinosoriaid, Olifar, My Fair Lady, Crythor ar y To, Carousel, Elvis, High School Musical and Nôl i’r 80’au.
In keeping with our policy of alternating Welsh and English productions the School presented the musical ‘Nôl i’r 80’au’ in Welsh in November 2011 and a bilingual production in 2014 and Gris in November 2016.
The Eisteddfod is the focal point of many other activities including Choral Singing and in particular Dawnsio Gwerin or Folk Dancing. The School has established an excellent tradition in this activity, and has won many National Competitions.
School public speaking teams have competed in a number of competitions. The School Debating Team won the Welsh School Championship in 1995, and represented Wales in the World Championships.
Members of the School have performed with the Welsh National Youth Theatre and, also, the British National Youth Theatre. A number of pupils are already members of these prestigious companies whilst others are seeking places.
We are very involved in charitable activities and almost every year some £3,000 is raised by pupils of the School to support local, national and international charities. We are particularly pleased that the Sixth Form Dinner Dance, when members of staff and partners are guests of the Sixth Form, makes a significant contribution to charity every year.
There is an active enterprise group in the School which seeks to organise ‘Mini Enterprises’. The French and German Departments arrange exchange visits between our pupils and pupils in schools in Plabennec in Brittany and Verden in Germany.
The activities mentioned briefly in this section reflect a very high level of extra curricular activity which enhances and widens the experiences available to pupils.
Educational visits are organized on an annual basis and are a valued part of the official school calendar. Theatre visits and field trips are a normal part of the school’s activities. Guest speakers regulary visit the School as part of the educational programme.
