Welcome to Canolfan Amanwy

At Canolfan Amanwy, we are committed to delivering the highest quality learning experiences and life opportunities for all our learners. We support young people in becoming confident, independent, and valued members of their communities.

Canolfan Amanwy

Who We Are

Canolfan Amanwy is a Local Authority specialist provision for learners aged 11–19 with:

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Additional complex diagnoses

All placements are made through the local authority panel, and each learner has an Individual Development Plan (IDP) tailored to their needs.

We are part of Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, a large secondary school in Ammanford, and some pupils benefit from planned inclusion in the mainstream setting. Learners travel from across Carmarthenshire to access our specialised support.

Lunch at Canolfan Amanwy

At Canolfan Amanwy, we recognise that mealtimes are different for every pupil. Some children enjoy the lively atmosphere of the school canteen, while others benefit from a quieter, more calming space. We support pupil choice by allowing them to decide both what they eat and where they eat it.

Our staff are trained by Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) specialists in safe feeding practices. Where needed, individual feeding plans are developed in consultation with SaLT professionals.

School Meals

Lunches are provided by the catering team at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman. Menus are clearly displayed in the lunch hall and are also available via Carmarthenshire County Council’s website.

We cater for special dietary requirements due to health, allergies, or religious beliefs wherever possible. A vegetarian option is available daily.

Packed Lunches

Pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch if they prefer. To ensure safety:

  • Please avoid glass containers or bottles.

  • Drinks should be stored in unbreakable containers.

  • We encourage healthy eating and ask that packed lunches support your child’s wellbeing.

Free School Meals

Your child may be eligible for free school meals if you receive certain state benefits. To find out more, please click here for more details.

Paying for Lunch

All school meals are paid for through ParentPay, our secure, cashless payment system. We use a biometric system in school to register lunch purchases. Please ensure your ParentPay account is topped up regularly.
