Looked After Children

At Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, the LAC Coordinator, responsible for overseeing the wellbeing and progress of all looked after children, is Mrs Nicola Caulfield.

All LAC have a Personal Education Plan and children have regular meetings to monitor progress in the school. This ensures necessary measures are in place to support their wellbeing and progress, and information is shared with relevant members of staff within the school. The children’s thoughts and wishes are listened to, so that any concerns may be dealt with. The child’s social worker draws up a care plan for them and they also have individual health-care plans.

The primary schools contact the LAC Coordinator if any support or interventions are required and these concerns are acted on. Smooth transition into the school is also supported through taster days, arranged if necessary, and contact with relevant teachers or teaching assistants.

All pupils from year 7-13 are tracked regularly with regard to attainment and attendance so that early interventions can be put in place if necessary.
