Post-18 Destinations
Students in Sixth Form are provided with a wide range of career-related activities. This includes:
- Work experience at the end of Year 12 which students are expected to organise themselves
- Exposure to a number of careers through workshops and talks from local and national organisations
- Regular access to the Careers Advisor
- Timely details of apprenticeship and higher apprenticeship opportunities
- All students take part in the Future Destinations programme as part of the Advanced Skills Challenge which gives them the opportunity to explore a wide range of careers in details and learn skills such as CV writing
- A pastoral programme that is focussed on helping them reflect on future careers options
Higher Education Support
As well as careers information, students in Sixth Form are given the opportunity to participate in a number of activities designed to support them in their research, selection and application to higher education institutes. This includes:
- Regular visits from universities including Oxford, Exeter, Swansea, UWTSD and USW
- Annual trips to Swansea University for the whole of Year 12, Cardiff Met University and Oxford University
- Sessions delivered by Student Finance Wales on budgeting and finance
- A full pastoral programme across Year 12 and 13 supported by all the local universities focussed on skills development, leadership and communication
- Group and individual support in preparing personal statements and UCAS applications
- Extensive support for higher education applications through the Futures Fortnight activity programme
